.KE is launching second level registrations on July 23rd

Kenic, the .ke Kenyan registry will make second level domain registrations available on July 23rd 2017.

The launch will commence with a 90 day sunrise period giving priority to trademark holders. The trademarks has to be registered under Kenyas trademarks Act and the domain name applied for similar to the registered trademark.

Following the sunrise period there will be a 30 day Landrush period. First after the 30 day landrush period allocation will be made of any domain names with only one applicant. The domain names with two or more applicants will be proceeding to an auction between the applicants. The domain is awarded to the highest bidder.

General availability will be in December with no exact date yet set.

Third level .ke registrations will remain available during, as well as after, the second level launch. Both .ke and .co.ke will be open for anyone to register without any special requirements.
